Applying Soil Superfood

Apply directly to the soil or make a liquid extraction.

Read on to learn about the correct ratios to use and how to make a liquid extract.

Direct Applications:

Soil Superfood contains composted organic material and beneficial soil microorganisms.

Unlike conventional fertilisers, Soil Superfood cannot burn your plants, and may be applied, undiluted, directly to the soil.

There is no upper-limit to how much you may add, and depending on your soil quality, you may want larger than the recommended amounts.

To top dress soil:

Add a layer of Soil Superfood approximately 1 inch thick on the soil around the base of your plant. Avoid piling Soil Superfood against the stalk or trunk of your plant.

To pot with Soil Superfood:

Mix 1 part Soil Superfood with 8 parts of potting mix.

This will improve the structure and quality of your soil and give your plants a nutritional boost.

Making a Liquid Extract:

Making a compost extract is a great way to get microbes from your compost into a liquid form, which can be diluted and sprayed to cover larger areas. This method is amazing at re-introducing diverse sets of microorganisms into your property, and can be easily applied to a larger area. â€‹

Steps:

1. Fill a vessel, such as a garden sprayer, watering can, or spray bottle with filtered, unchlorinated water

2. Use the ratio chart below to find how much Soil Superfood is needed for the quantity of extract you would like to make.

3. Measure the required amount of Soil Superfood and add to the water. Place Soil Superfood into a strainer such as THIS. Gently massage the compost in the strainer bag to extract the microbes into the liquid. See extract video for more info.

4. If in a large enough vessel, gently massage the strainer bag to extract as much as possible from Soil Superfood.

5. Water plants with extract around the base of the plant as a soil drench.

6. The remaining product left in the strainer may be applied to the top of soil or added into the garden. This soggy wet material is still full of life and can be used in the garden. The particles left over at the bottom of your vessel can be used the same way. There is no waste with Soil Superfood.
